Woodturnings by Mark Cothren
I enjoy turning wood and making curls.  I love
seeing what colorful and grainy surprises God has
put in there under the bark!  I get a great deal of
pleasure from seeing a rough log start turning
round and opening up to show what is inside.  From
tree, to log, to blank, to rough out, to finish turned,
to sanded and finished!

I really enjoy and take pride in working with wood
that is destined for the burn pile or to simply sit and
rot.  This wood is commonly referred to by turners
as “rescued”.
The process of hollowing a piece of wood to create a form or
vessel is somewhat unique - even among turners.  Consistent
wall thickness, form and inclusions of bark and voids make
hollow forms a more complex and lengthy process than turning a
bowl or platter.  I enjoy the challenge of turning a hollow form,
and I also very much enjoy the finished product.
I have become good friends with core group of turners across
the United States.  We have started meeting up a couple of
times a year for a long weekend of turning and skill/technique
sharing.  This has been an invaluable experience for me.

FlyingCurls.com is the result of these friendships.  We hope
you enjoy the site!  Check back often for regular updates!
